Understanding the New WSH (Measurement of Noise) Regulations
I
Industrial HygienistThe Workplace Safety and Health (Measurement of Noise) Regulations require employers to protect their employees from excessive noise exposure, which can lead to permanent hearing loss. Recent updates emphasize the importance of regular monitoring and implementing engineering controls.
Measurement of Noise
Noise monitoring must be conducted by a competent person at least once every three years, or whenever there are significant changes to the processes or machinery. The results must be reported to the MOM.
Noise Control Measures
Employers should follow the hierarchy of controls: eliminate the noise source, use engineering controls (like soundproofing), and as a last resort, provide Personal Protective Equipment (Hearing Protectors).
