Leelloyds Marine Engineering (‘Leelloyds’) and its assistant manager, Low Lye Wah (‘Mr Low’), became the first company and the first person respectively to be convicted and sentenced under the WSHA. The District Court fined Leelloyds S$100,000 for failing to ensure the safety of its employees, resulting in the death of Malaysian worker James Balang and Mr Low was sentenced to three months’ jail.
